Cross and Crown is a youth-focused ministry committed to discipling and mentoring teens, empowering them to live Christ-centered lives. We create safe, nurturing, and spiritually enriching environments where young people can learn, engage, grow, and be equipped to live out their faith with boldness and joy.
To disciple and mentor teens, empowering them to live Christ-centered lives.
To raise a generation of young disciples who actively live out Godโs Word in daily life.
By investing in young people today, we are shaping a generation that will impact families, communities, and nations for the Kingdom of God.
While volunteering at Grace Hill School , a mixed school in Kitale Kenya in the year 2013 to 2016, I witnessed firsthand the overwhelming challenges that girls face โ challenges that often prevent them from completing their education.
Many of these girls came from slum communities and carried heavy burdens far beyond their years. I saw the heartbreaking realities:
I was deeply moved. These girls were not only disadvantaged โ they were carrying the weight of entire households, often without support, recognition, or hope.
I began researching and discovered that nearly 5 out of 10 girls dropped out before reaching their fourth year of high school. Even more alarming, 2 out of 10 girls became pregnant before starting high school โ especially during long holidays. In Forkland, many girls were married before age 15. In Matisi, 3 out of 5 girls under 13 were already engaging in sexual activity, and 1 out of 5 had married. In some households, girls as young as 12 were consuming alcohol because it was readily available. In Forkland, many joined night gangs and eventually dropped out of school โ some turning to prostitution, selling their bodies for as little as 100 shillings.
Further researching, I discovered something both heartbreaking and hopeful: Many of the girls who dropped out of school were not failing โ they were bright, talented, and full of potential. Some excelled in sports, others in dance, art, or creative expression. But they lacked one critical thing: support. There was no one to guide them, mentor them, or believe in them. Without encouragement or direction, these gifted girls were left vulnerable โ exposed to peer pressure, exploitation, and hopelessness. Their talents went unnoticed. Their dreams were silenced.
I realized that potential alone is not enough. Girls need people who will walk with them, speak life into them, and help them rise. Thatโs why mentorship, discipleship, and creative outreach are at the heart of Cross and Crown. We donโt just see what girls are โ we see what they can become.
I knew something had to change.
I believed โ and still believe โ that every girl deserves a chance to complete her education. That life skills, mentorship, and discipleship can help girls overcome peer pressure, stay in school, and make wise choices. That income-generating activities can teach them how to support themselves and their communities with dignity.
This conviction gave birth to Cross and Crown โ a ministry committed to discipling, mentoring, and empowering girls to rise above these challenges and become everything God intended them to be.
The Cross represents surrender to Christ, discipleship, and following Him through trials.
The Crown speaks of the eternal reward promised to those who remain faithful.
There is no Crown without the Cross. No victory without laying down our lives to follow Christ.
In 2017, with the support of friends from Europe, we pioneered the Global Steps project to help children from poor communities and slums access quality education in private schools. In Africa, we hold tightly to the belief that education is the key to the future โ and we wanted to unlock that future for every child, regardless of background.
But as the journey unfolded, I began to see a deeper truth: Education alone was not enough.
Many of these children, though now enrolled in school, still struggled. They faced emotional wounds, peer pressure, and a lack of guidance. I realized that without mentorship, discipleship, and empowerment, education could not fully protect or prepare them for a healthy, purposeful life.
This revelation became the foundation of Cross and Crown: a ministry built not just to educate, but to disciple, mentor, and empower young people to live Christ-centered lives and become all that God created them to be.
With the combination of classroom education, mentorship, and discipleship, we can help 8 out of 10 girls make good choices, pursue their Godly purpose, complete education, and realize their dreams. It is possible.
